Visit Quimper, a city of art and history

Stroll through the cobbled streets of Quimper’s town centre and admire its half-timbered houses dating back to medieval times. Many of these buildings now host shops on the ground floor, offering a perfect blend of heritage discovery and shopping.

Continue towards Place Saint-Corentin, at the heart of the historic centre, where two remarkable landmarks stand side by side: Saint-Corentin Cathedral, a masterpiece of Gothic architecture, and the Bishops’ Palace, home to the Breton Departmental Museum. Here, you can explore collections of archaeology, fine arts and regional heritage. Entire sections are dedicated to Breton traditions, including costumes, furniture and the famous Quimper faience.

Quimper, a city of gardens

Quimper is also known for its many gardens, perfect for relaxing and exploring. One of our favourites is the Locmaria garden, located along the River Odet, where aromatic and medieval plants evoke the gardens of Anne of Brittany’s monasteries.

The Jardin de la Retraite offers a completely different atmosphere, with plant species from all over the world. Meanwhile, the Jardin de la Paix invites you to a Mediterranean setting with olive trees, Aleppo pines and cypresses, along with stunning views over Quimper’s historic centre and the cathedral.

When to visit Quimper in Brittany

In July, the city hosts the Festival de Cornouaille, celebrating Breton culture with traditional dances, costumes, local produce, concerts and events.

From April to September, discover another side of Quimper with the Vedettes de l’Odet. Step aboard for a guided cruise along one of France’s most beautiful rivers and enjoy a unique perspective of the region.
