The best shore fishing spots in Finistère
A long-standing Breton tradition, shore fishing is an activity that can be enjoyed with family or friends. It combines walks along the coast at low tide, the thrill of discovering hidden treasures — and the promise of a delicious meal — with the simple pleasure of sharing a special moment together.

Ris Beach in Douarnenez (45 minutes from La Plage campsite)
Ris Beach is an ideal place to discover shore fishing. Nestled at the end of a bay between Kerlaz and Douarnenez, it has retained its natural charm.
At low tide, the sea retreats far back, revealing a wide and flat sandy area — perfect conditions for beginners to try shore fishing safely. In winter, the beach is also popular with surfers, while throughout the year it attracts shore fishing enthusiasts.
Île-Tudy (35 minutes from the campsite)
Île-Tudy, a peninsula in the Bigouden region, is one of the most popular shore fishing spots in Finistère.
Almost entirely surrounded by fine sandy beaches, it offers plenty of space for everyone. Here, you can easily find cockles, clams, winkles, oysters and shrimp — making it a rewarding place, especially for beginners.
Even beyond fishing, Île-Tudy is worth the visit: its former fishing village, charming white houses, dunes and beautiful sunsets over the Pont-l’Abbé river create a truly memorable setting.
So grab your bucket and start exploring — the treasures of the shore are waiting for you!
Questélan Beach and Saint-Léger Cove in Riec-sur-Bélon (1h10 from the campsite)
Riec-sur-Bélon is renowned for its famous flat oysters, a local gastronomic speciality.
While you may not come across these prized oysters during your shore fishing session, Questélan Beach and Saint-Léger Cove are rich in marine life. You’ll find small crabs, razor clams, winkles and oysters.
These sites are particularly appreciated by more experienced shore fishers who enjoy searching under rocks and in sandbanks for shellfish and crustaceans — perfect for a seaside aperitif.
Moëlan-sur-Mer (1h10 from the campsite)
This coastal village, shaped by rias that stretch inland, offers a unique and ever-changing landscape.
The coastal paths lead to popular shore fishing areas such as Trénez and Malachape beaches in Brigneau, as well as Kersecol point and Baz Couz in Merrien. These spots are ideal for both beginners and experienced fishers, combining beautiful scenery with rewarding catches.
Shore fishing guidelines
Shore fishing can be practised all year round, but spring tides offer the best opportunities.
You don’t need much equipment: boots, a windproof jacket, a net, a small shovel or rake, a bucket and gloves are enough.
To ensure a safe and sustainable experience, remember to:
- Check local regulations and authorised fishing areas
- Be aware of tide times and weather conditions
- Respect minimum sizes, quotas and fishing seasons
- Replace rocks after lifting them to protect marine life
- Avoid going alone and inform someone of your plans
- Head back at least 30 minutes before the tide rises
- Keep your catch fresh and alive until consumption
